Job Description

Job Objective:

  • Lead the assigned Business Development department to develop and achieve sales strategies and targets in line with the company’s growth objectives and strategies
  • Build strong customer relationships to achieve customer loyalty
  • Assist the General Manager in the overall management of Business Development departments
  • Initiate, plan and lead company-wide initiatives and projects to achieve organisational alignment
  • Provide strong leadership by communicating and inspiring employees, promoting the organisational culture and driving innovation and learning in the company.

Core Responsibilities:

General Management

  • Support the organisational strategic planning process, including the identification of short and long-term goals for the company, and the formulation of strategies and plans to achieve growth objectives
  • Assist the General Manager in developing budgets and manpower resourcing plans for business development departments, and monitor and control expenses to meet the annual budget and manpower plans.

Sales Strategy and Account Management

  • Develop sales strategies, plans and targets for various global regions based on a keen understanding of customer requirements and market developments, and monitor the budget for the team
  • Determine market positioning for each product/brand and establish and review product pricing strategies to maximise sales revenue
  • Identify new and potential sales channels and customer segments and initiate contact to expand networks and markets and build partnerships
  • Monitor and review implementation of plans to keep current with changing trends and customer needs; provide updates, sales reports, forecasts and recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Source for potential new customers through networking
  • Manage key clients and work with internal and external stakeholders to cater to client needs
  • Maintain strong relationships with major customers and business partners and update them of the company’s progress (new certifications, improved product offerings)
  • Provide guidance to the team to address complex customer-related issues
  • Review and approve customer quotations when necessary
  • Engage suppliers, distributors and partners to develop and enhance product offerings

People Management

  • Participate in the hiring and orientation of the Business Development department and senior management personnel
  • Drive collaboration across departments by identifying synergistic opportunities and platforms to achieve shared goals
  • Ensure self and employees keep abreast of industry trends and knowledge and continuously seek development opportunities
  • Identify development gaps and interventions for staff and oversee the establishment and implementation of the organisational training plan
  • Communicate career development opportunities and work with HR and senior management to develop career development plans for employees
  • Manage performance by setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals, coach and discipline team members to achieve high performance
  • Motivate and encourage team members by according recognition when appropriate
  • Identify high performing team members and recommend them for grooming for leadership roles as part of career development
  • Promote a positive work culture aligned to United Oil’s Core Values
