Job Description

· Directly responsible for originating Subscription Finance for Financial Sponsors as well as introducing products offered by both the Bank and SMBC Nikko

· This role will have direct contact with senior executives (including Board Members) at the target customers

· The target client list will operate and be based throughout Asia and often globally requiring interaction with SMBC personnel and offices around the world

· The Executive Director will lead and be responsible for the origination process of specific deals throughout the project cycle in close co-operation with front office departments (client coverage and booking entity), as well as Operational departments, Legal, Compliance, Loan Distribution, Loan Execution, Loan Agency and Nikko

Key Responsibilities

· Originate transaction mandates for new clients and effectively manage current and potential client relationships in Asia.

· Originate and manage Subscription Finance transactions, which will include booking deals in Asia and do so in cooperation with SSFD staff members (For the avoidance of doubt, the staff member will not have the ability to commit to transactions on behalf of SSFD or to book deals in Asia without the necessary local approvals.)

· Attend external meetings with clients to present financing proposals as sole representative of SPDA often in conjunction with Product departments (SPD, LCM & Nikko in particular)

· Provide thought leadership in preparing of team marketing materials, pitch-books and reports, to ensure successful promotion of the team’s activities both internally and externally

· Pro-actively suggest improvements, initiatives and new products to enhance output and value-add of SPDA and SSFD

· Actively lead and recommend options regarding client portfolio reviews and assess existing clients’ needs and identify potential targets

· Work with internal colleagues in the drafting and reviewing of documentation (mandate and execution documents) in cooperation with relevant internal teams

· Oversee research on borrowers, markets and lenders using Bloomberg and other information and sources to present to Customers and Internal Management in a clear and compelling way

· Ensure timely reporting of fees and deal pipelines

· Attend internal meetings with RM departments to gain and share information

· Provide guidance and management to junior staff (i.e. Analyst to Director) on an ongoing basis

· Comply with all regulatory and internal policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines Initiate wider initiatives internally and externally not limited to specific role


· Rigorous understanding of credit, investment and financial analysis and their application in investment decisions and transaction structuring, probably gained in 1) a major commercial bank or lender or 2) corporate or project finance group of a major international organisation

· Solution focused with proven business judgement and high ethical and professional standards

· Networking skills, and ability and endurance to fully manage transactions through to their conclusion

· Proven track record of successful decision-making skills, problem and conflict resolution and ability to participate in teams – especially as a leader

· Promotes good teamwork and guides others

· Good relevant degree from a leading university
