The Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Global Head of Strategy & Transformation for the Technology & Innovation group, the Head of T&I Strategy will be responsible for defining, managing and helping to implement the Technology Strategy for Standard Chartered Bank.  The role will also require ownership of the Technology & Innovation organizations strategy, ranging from the definition of its Technology themes, through to areas such as Workforce, Location, Vendor and Process Strategy.

Strategy

Articulate the Bank’s technology strategy on behalf of the Group CIO, for internal, Board, Regulatory and Investor discussions and commitments. This would

Include linkage from tech strategy/ priorities to business strategy and objectives

Involve collation from CIO teams OR directly led by central team

Define, maintain and drive the T&I strategy for people, vendor, workforce and locations

Own and manage the bank’s Gartner contract

Maintain and govern implementation of the bank’s build or buy strategy

Define macro technology themes spanning multiple businesses/ functions

Provide strategically aligned leadership to cross-business/ function initiatives during early stages, on request from Group CIO or business/ domain/ geography CIOs

Business

Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the group operates.

Influences the T&I delivery responses and solutions to critical business problems

Forge deep relationships with CIO business lines to ensure understanding and alignment of T&I strategy

Drive the development and adoption of common foundation systems, components and services to be used by different businesses/ functions/ geographies.

Partners with the Banks Group Strategy team to ensure alignment between Technology Strategy and the banks broader Group Strategy

People and Talent

Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values.  Set appropriate tone and expectations from the team and stakeholders.

Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development; make sure that the team members are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles, ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.

Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.

Scouting, hiring, inspiring and managing the best technology talents in the field of technology strategy, innovation, and emerging technologies both internally and externally

Risk Management

Responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, controlling and mitigating risks to the Group, as well as have firm treatment plans for all such risks and delivering on the treatment plans. Also, an awareness and understanding of the main risks facing the Group and the role the individual plays in managing them

Interpret the Group’s financial information, identify key issues based on this information and put in place appropriate controls and measures

Ensure a full understanding of the risk and control environment within the T&I Strategy organisation

Act quickly and decisively when any risk and control weakness becomes apparent and ensure they are addressed within an appropriate timeframe and, if necessary, escalated through the relevant committees

Regulatory & Business Conduct

Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.

Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.

Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Our Ideal Candidate

Minimum 10+ yrs exp

Exp into Technology Strategy

Excellent organisation and leadership skills with ability to manage multiple deadlines and effectively prioritise

Mandatory Skills: Industry Technology Themes. Operating Model Design, Workforce Strategy, Process Re-engineering, Digital Transformation, Technology Transformation, etc.

Able to manage Risk, People & Conduct

Academic or Professional Education/Qualifications: Bachelor’s / Master’s degree or equivalent

Management / Technology Consulting experience
